Google Glass: The Next Big Thing in Technology, or the Next Big Failure

If you follow the world of innovative technology before it hits the mass markets at all you’ve had to have heard of the the glasses dubbed “Google Glass” that have been all the rage among those who like to speculate on this sort of thing before any official information has been released. Here’s the deal: either this new technology is going to become huge, like iPod huge where everyone eventually has them, or it’s going to go the way of crystal Pepsi, BetaMax, and HD DVD and fall into that technological graveyard.

The Google Glass has huge potential, there’s no denying that. This style of technology has a completely unique side of the market to itself, Wearable fully integrated wireless technology that merges a normal person into almost a unique device all their own is unseen and completely new to the entire world. That’s quite a big potential, but living up to that sort of expectation of making a human into an almost entry level cyborg device is quite an undertaking. Since so little is actually known of the device and what it will eventually serve to do, it is hard to say if it is so far falling short or not.

When there is a product like this that has never been tested publicly or had a press release detailing all of the technology and features all you can tell is what the rumors are saying. So far the rumors are intense and quite expansive. In all honesty I think, as with most new technology devices, the Google Glass will be innovative, powerful, but not live up to expectations. With so much hype a device really stands no chance. Will it be another Google powerhouse mobile unit? Sure. Will it have a crazy price tag? Almost certainly. Will it eventually cost much less and be completely integrated into technology and our world? Probably eventually, yes. In a few years, and if science fiction has anything to say it will.

Google Now Inspired Home Screen: SF Launcher Now

There is almost no more iconic landscape than the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco. SF Launcher Now is a new launcher in the Google Play store highlights the amazing skyline of the city with an interactive, changing launcher which is growing fast as one of the favorite new launchers of the year. What exactly is a launcher? A launcher is an image or background for the device you are using which can be manipulated to use widgets and other features. It is the first thing you see upon booting up your device. The attitude portrayed in this new launcher is one that is catching on fast.

Learning about this launcher now will only make the launcher better and better as time passes on. It is still in its Alpha stage which means it has been released and upgraded/updated several times, but the application is still far from finished. The developers even have the current fixes which they are working on, and the new features they want to add listed on the Google Play download page.

This SF launcher also has an entertaining twist. It automatically detects the time of day and adjusts the lighting of the cityscape to reflect the current daylight of the actual city. This means that at all times the launcher will be a digital representation of the city line to those who are either nostalgic, missing home, or just a fan of the great city.

The functionality of this launcher is already great, but could certainly use a few updates. For example it isn’t completely compatible with a tablet set to landscape mode. It still runs well, but the image does not reorient in the proper full screen way. All in all it is a great way to arrange apps and widgets and does so with the San Francisco graphic art in a way that no other launcher has.

Official Announcement: Sony to Release Xperia Tablet Z! Water proof and 6.9mm Thick!

Today was a monumental day for technology buffs. In the tablet world there is a huge amount of competition of company’s climbing for the top. Sony has recently jumped back into the running in not only the tablet world, but the handheld technology world all together. They are having their biggest announcement to date with the new Xperia Tablet Z. This comes after the announcement of their handheld device which is under the same line. The features on this tablet are unparalleled and reckons back to the late 90s and early 2000s when Sony was the cutting edge of new technology.

Here we go! Not only is this newly announced tablet incredibly thin at only 6.9mm, yes millimeters, but it is also waterproof. These two features alone separate this tablet from anything else on the market today. The iPad, or any of Samsung’s line, come no where close to this level of thickness of Sony’s new Xperia Z. This means not only the ultimate portability, but the weight and stress of the tablet being exponentially less on the user. In the world of functionality of tablets, that is almost the most important feature.

The waterproof technology also completely separates this tablet from the pack. If there’s anything any tablet on the market is infamous for it is the vulnerability and the susceptibility from accidents to bricking your device. Tablets are thin, portable, and incredibly risky to a more clumsy person. The butterfingers in your family can now even own a tablet and not risk spilling that glass of water which would otherwise ruin the investment.

This tablet, although being the thinnest main competitor come market time, will also feature a 10.1 inch screen like that of the other notable mentions such as the larger Galaxy Note. It doesn’t end there. A 1.5 ghz Quad Core processor and the newest 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system will also be inside. I don’t know about all of the readers out there, but I know I can’t wait to get my hands on this thing!

Almost There! Untethered Jailbreak for iOS6/6.0.1 for iPhone 5 and More Devices Underway!

If you know anything about technology or follow any sort of news with the programming world of mobile devices you may already be familiar with the terms “jailbreak” or “tethered vs. untethered”. For those of you who aren’t jailbreaking a device essentially means unlocking the code so that it can be used to run apps not available on the app store and not be limited by blocks installed in the operating system. Tethered vs. untethered refers to the simple idea of plugging a device into a computer to do this jailbreaking process or performing it wirelessly. These exploits have followed Apple and other devices around since their creation. There will always be programmers searching for new ways to skirt around security blocks and allow the power of the device to shine without limitations.

The reason this is such big news is because most of the people really interested in this type of jailbreaking procedure are those who follow technology religiously and keep the most up to date device possible. This means that for months now there has been no official and standardized jailbreak for the newest version of the iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. This has left users of the iPhone accustomed to the jailbroken lifestyle feeling incomplete and left behind. All of that is about to change!

According to tweets by two of the most famous hacking programmers out there, Pod2g and Planetbeing, they are both working together to find and produce a public jailbreak. All that is standing between the public and a fully released jailbreak is an initial execution code. This means that most of the hard work is already done. Considering they are revealing their partnership and tweeting about their progress is a sure sign that things are probably very close to being completed.

Considering that the iOS 6.0.1. is almost going to be released it is more likely that the developing team will wait until this is public to allow the public access to the untethered jailbreak to make sure it stays up to date fully. Myself and thousands of other iPhone users are waiting on the edge of our seats for this jailbreak to be released and when it finally is, all of those otherwise inaccessible apps will be ours for the taking!

How to: Move Android Apps & Games To SD Card

There’s almost nothing more frustrating than running out of internal storage on your Android device because of all of the awesome apps out there today. It’s so crazy how the ability to save apps to your SD card hasn’t been made a part of the operating system, but finally there’s a way. We’re all saved! Take a look at these three apps to see how you can finally open up all of that blocked storage from your apps and save your data to your SD card.

App 2 SD ;

app_2_sd

This app is the cream of the crop. It has over 14 million downloads from the Google Play store. It allows seamless transferring of memory from the phone to the SD card, for apps and widgets and all of those other necessary components for eating up your phone’s internal memory.

App2SD ;

app2sd

No we’re not playing a trick on you. The top two apps for this process have the identical name just with or without spaces. Hey, we don’t make the rules; we’re just providing the news! This app also allows the transfer of apps back and forth to and from the SD card and to the phone. It also allows you to sort the apps by file size, name and other relevant information as to control them better and delete the ones taking up too much room. This is much more convenient than the running through the laundry list type of app deletion on most operating systems.

Move Apps ;

This app’s highlighted feature is the notification it gives you when you download an app that can be stored. That’s the kicker to this whole side of things. Not every app can be moved from your phone’s storage. That means inevitably some memory has to be taken by some of those stubborn apps which is even a better reason to get one of these transferring apps.

Don’t be held back by your phone’s internal memory anymore! Break free of the confines of app storage and the crazy amount of time and space they use up. Get one of these storage apps to save them to your SD card.

Wireless Charging Reported for the Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung is always on the forefront of innovation with their “Galaxy S” lineup. Unlike Apple, they usually feature at least one new feature that is at least mildly revolutionary to the model. It has been making the rounds of the news world that the new model of Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature wireless charging. Hopefully, gone will be the days of mountains of noodle like cords swirling around the extension cords jockeying for position. If this phone truly does put this feature where its mouth is it could be the start of a whole new shift in the charging mechanisms for most phones. There’s always tons of risk involved in a change this big, but who could honestly say they’d prefer to be chained down with a wire rather than free to not have to worry about one extra plug, one extra wire, and one less socket for your electronics.

Other rumors are circulating about the actual application of this wireless charging and it seems like it will be done through a resonant magnetic coupling. That is quite a mouthful, but it basically means that the technology is going to be similar to many other Qi enabled devices. Qi is a technology firm that specializes in creating wireless charging products. This will open the floodgates for the technology to become main stream and have cheaper, third party options available all over the place.

With all of the other rumors circulating about this device it is hard to actually determine which are true and which are simply media hype. We here at TechnoBB.com like to only bring the most factual and up to date news. The wireless charging is almost a sure thing and it will come with a wave of other features as well. As soon as we know more about this highly anticipated device we will be sure to say it here first.
