CPU-Z : A Powerful System Profiler For Android

If you ever wanted some detailed information on the innards of your Android device, CPU-Z is the perfect app. The beta version has hit the Google Play store and is free and works on all devices running Android 3.0 or higher. CPU-Z is a popular desktop app that profiles your PC and gives stats on everything from processor make and model to RAM, motherboard, and display data. Now the Android version brings that same level of detail to your Android device. It’s a great tool for those who might consider overclocking their device or who just want to know exactly what goes on under the hood.

CPU-Z comes with four tabs including SOC (System on a Chip), System, Battery, and Sensors. SOC gives information on the device’s main chip including name, architecture, number of cores, chip size, clock speed, and GPU details. The System tab shows RAM, display information, board, display, manufacturer, and internal memory statistics. Battery shows information on the type of battery, temperature, and its charge status. Sensors is one of the most fun and shows real time sensor data from all available sensors on the device like the accelerometer, compass, and light sensors. You can twist and turn the phone and watch the data stream in and change with each movement.

This is still a beta version and there is no option to view network or data connection statistics but that could very well be added in the future. For overclocking enthusiasts or for those who love to know every last detail about their device, you can’t go wrong with CPU-Z.

Microsoft’s Office 365 Comes to the iPhone

Now, iPhone users can view and edit all of their Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel projects on their phones if they have a current Office 365 subscription. The actual name of the app is ‘Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers’ and it will not work properly without an active subscription to the service.

As with the Office 365 product, the app is designed to work in the cloud. All of your documents stored via Microsoft’s SkyDrive, SkyDrive Pro, and SharePoint can be accessed from the app. Likewise, the app can upload any changes or new documents to these services for later viewing and editing in a Microsoft Office desktop program or mobile device. One very convenient feature is the ability to automatically view compatible Office attachments without exporting the file manually. Once Office Mobile is installed on your iPhone, it automatically integrates itself and makes the process of receiving those file attachments much easier.

The cloud also covers some subtle but convenient features like resuming editing or reading in the spot where the document was last viewed. The app cleverly downloads accessed documents so that they can still be accessed without a data connection if one isn’t available. The next time you do have a data connection, all changes made to documents are uploaded like magic.

The app looks great and like most Microsoft Office products, contains almost every feature you could think of. It’s a powerful tool for heavy users of Office 365 who want to get some extra work done on their iPhones. Lucky for them, Microsoft decided to throw a tasty bone to their rival Apple.

Cloud Print for Android, the Official Printing App From Google

Google has finally released an official cloud printing app, unsurprisingly named Cloud Print for Android devices. The app allows for a printer to be registered to the cloud through Google’s services. Once a printer is registered, you can print from almost any imaginable device but now it’s easier than ever with the Android version. Why Google took so long to release their official version of the app for their own mobile OS is a mystery when there are so many cloud printing apps on the market already.

The app has settings for print jobs that can be sent over the cloud to the printer for customizing features like color and resolution. If your printer doesn’t have native support for cloud print, you can download the desktop version from Google and use your PC or Mac to communicate with the printer.

Once everything is set up, Cloud Print does the rest. You can print from anywhere you have a data or internet connection from your Android device. Almost anything that is shareable on your Android device can be printed. Want to send a quick physical copy of a document sitting on your phone to someone at the office? Within a few seconds, they can have that document in hand with the power of Cloud Print!

Cloud Print is available free on Google Play. If you’ve ever had trouble printing from your Android device, give Cloud Print a try. It’s not only free, it does a fantastic job.

Internet Speed Meter for Android Smartphones

As the name implies, Internet Speed Meter (and the Lite version) for Android shows your current data connection speed in real time. There is a status bar icon that shows your Android device’s current internet speed as well as notifications which can collect data throughout the day and give you a full update on your internet usage. The app can detect if you’re using a data connection or on WiFi and give separate status reports for each. The app is very small and light, giving you just the bare minimum of information. It acts as a small boost to the stock Android features and you may forget it’s even a separate app.

The Lite version comes with some limitations as you would expect. After a limit of 100MB of data usage or half of your daily average data use, the meter icon becomes disabled and you will need to wait for it to be activated again. You cannot reset the status reports for the day either.

Internet Speed Meter is available for $1.50 on Google Play and the Lite version is free. If you find yourself constantly checking your data speed or worrying about data limits, Internet Speed Meter might make life a bit easier.
