Use the WhatsApp Web Client Right Through Your iPhone

The popular WhatsApp messaging platform launched its web client several months ago but is still not accessible through the iPhone’s browser. Luckily, if you have a jailbroken iPhone, it is possible to navigate to and make use of the web client. If you prefer the layout and features available on the full web client as opposed to those on the iPhone app, it might be worth checking out. As of now, Apple has not allowed access to the web client through iOS devices for a variety of reasons, mainly security concerns. However, WhatsApp Web Enabler is a convenient little patch that will add web client support to the WhatsApp app.

To download and install the patch, simply navigate to Cydia and the Big Boss repository and select the WhatsApp Web Enabler.

Once it has been applied, if you open the WhatsApp iPhone app, under Settings you will see a new button called WhatsApp Web. Tapping this button should allow you to go to web.whatsapp.com where you can scan a QR code which would then launch the full web client. You can also choose to disable the patch from the Settings menu of the iPhone if you decide you don’t need it at that time. The current version also contains a number of bugfixes that address problems users had with the very first release.

Of course there are some security concerns when using this type of access to your messaging accounts and this is the main reason Apple has blocked web client access so far. It’s possible that they will review the process and allow it sometime but for now, this patch is the only way to access the web client on an iPhone. If you are a rabid fan of WhatsApp and find that the iOS version just isn’t cutting it, then by all means use this trick to try out the web client. Your contacts await the next stream of instant messages and emoticons.

Download Legally Adobe Photoshop CS2 For Free

In the realm of graphics design, image design and editing, there is no more powerful brand than that of Photoshop. ‘Photoshopping’ has even become a verb in its own right. While Adobe’s wildly popular software sets the bar for image editing software, it certainly doesn’t come cheap and is usually meant for professional use. Luckily for those on a budget, it appears that the older version of Adobe Photoshop CS2 is completely free to download and use. This is not a trial version, it is the fully functional retail version of the software.

The main drawback is that this version is over a decade old. For Mac users this is especially troublesome as it was built for PowerPC versions of Mac OS and will not run on a newer Mac unless you have additional software for backwards compatibility. However, for everyone else this version works perfectly fine and you certainly can’t beat free. Because it is such an old version, Adobe has stopped checking every user and license and is essentially giving it away to anyone. To download a version for your OS, follow these simple steps.

1. Go to this “Adobe site” to reach the download area.

2. Create an Adobe ID or sign in if you already have one.

3. If you’re creating a new account, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. Check that e-mail to verify your new account and you’ll be linked to the downloads area.

4. Scroll down to Photoshop CS2 and click to download the version of Adobe Photoshop CS2 for your OS.

5. To the right of the download link is a serial number. Save it and use it to activate Adobe Photoshop CS2.

You should now have a fully working, albeit slightly dated version of Adobe Photoshop CS2 running on your computer. In some ways it’s a smart move by Adobe to simply let people try out the full version of their older software. Some users might be so pleased with it that they won’t be able to resist upgrading to the full version. So, get out there and get to editing those images!

Apple’s Recommended Apple Watch Cleaning Guide

As with any device, the Apple Watch is bound to accumulate grease, dust, sweat and grime from daily use. This is especially true as it is being worn on the wrist and likely to encounter a wide variety of environments. Apple has kindly provided a simple guide for users to keep their Apple Watch shiny and clean and their skin free of irritation. Some users have reported mild rashes from the wearing the watch, and certainly some people have more sensitive skin than others. People can also have a lot of variation in their sensitivity or allergic reaction to various materials and so Apple has also listed the materials used in each version of the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch is made of stainless steel, the Apple Watch Sport is aluminum, and the Apple Watch Edition is 18-Karat gold. If you have a known sensitivity to any of these metals, it would be wise to go with the version that won’t irritate your skin. The watch bands also come in a variety of materials from fluoroelastomer to leather to stainless steel so the same conditions apply if you know any of these might annoy your skin.

The Apple Watch is water resistant so the main cleaning advice from Apple is to use a mildly damp cloth to wipe away sweat, grease, and dirt that has accumulated on the watch and band. You should avoid alcohol based cleaners as these can damage the materials on the watch or band. Apple also recommends not using abrasives, soaps, or heaters to dry and clean the watch as these can also damage the surface or the materials in the watch and band.

Apple also stresses that you should use some general outlines in wearing the watch to avoid rashes. Such things as ensuring a proper watch band fit on your wrist that is not overly tight or loose, keeping both the watch and your skin underneath clean and dry, and as mentioned before, choosing the right band material for your skin.

Follow these simple recommendations and you should comfortably wear that beautiful new Apple Watch for many years to come!

Pebble Time Smartwatch Shipments 27 May 2015

Very exciting news is making the rounds for early Kickstarter backers of the latest model of the Pebble smartwatch, the color e-ink Pebble Time. Shipments of the Pebble Time and premium Pebble Time Steel are set to begin on May 27th and backers will be receiving their shiny new watches soon thereafter. Backers will be sent a confirmation e-mail within the next few days to finalize their orders for the particular Pebble Time they want. Once shipments are received by distribution centers, you can also track the shipment so you know exactly when your beautiful new smartwatch is going to arrive.

This being a Kickstarter product, not every backer will receive their watch at the exact same time or all at once. Some people will need to be a bit more patient but everyone will eventually receive their Pebble Time with minimal delay. With an update this big, it’s looking to be very worth the wait whether you’ve ordered the standard Pebble Time or the Pebble Time Steel.

Speaking of updates, the release of the Pebble Time coincides with a major overhaul and update of Pebble features in general. Pebble has worked hard to bring full Android and iOS support for the both the original Pebble and the new Pebble Time watches. Now users of the two biggest mobile OSes can fully enjoy using the Pebble or even switch between them if they use both Android and iOS devices. Pebble has removed the 8-app limit, allowed for unlimited watch faces, and support for smart swapping of apps between your phone and the Pebble Time. It sounds like a very promising and major update in usability that should give other smartwatches a serious run for their money.

Just a few more weeks and Pebble fans will get to enjoy a beautiful color e-ink display that last up to a full week on a single charge! It’s Pebble Time baby!

Using the Apple Watch on a 5Ghz WiFi Network

The Apple Watch supposedly only works via a 2.4GHz WiFi connection but there is a workaround to trick it into working with a 5GHz connection if that’s how your WiFi is configured. Technically it would not really be using a 5GHz network because the Apple Watch is equipped with a 2.4GHz chip so it can only connect to like networks. This trick will allow you to make use of a 5GHz connection all the same. Follow this procedure to fool the Apple Watch into playing nice with that 5GHz network.

1. Either turn the Apple Watch Off or enable Airplane mode. To turn the watch off, hold the side button down until you see the power slider. To enable Airplane mode, swipe up on the watch face, then swipe left until you reach the Airplane mode toggle and toggle it to On.

2. Now on your iPhone, forget your existing WiFi connections and disable Bluetooth. Go to Settings, then WiFi where you will see a list of existing WiFi networks. Tap the ‘!’ exclamation symbol next to each network name and tap ‘Forget This Network’.

3. Connect the iPhone back to your 2.4GHz network, enable Bluetooth, turn your Apple Watch back on and disable Airplane mode if it’s on. The Apple Watch will reconnect to your iPhone.

4. Turn Bluetooth off on your iPhone. Now attempt to send a quick iMessage via the Apple Watch. The message should be sent successfully as it will revert to the WiFi connection.

5. You can now turn Bluetooth on again on the iPhone. Forget the 2.4GHz network again on the iPhone WiFi settings and reconnect using your 5GHz connection.

6. Once again turn Bluetooth off on your iPhone. Attempt to send another iMessage from your Apple Watch. It should again work but is now using your 5GHz connection.

It’s a bit of a hassle but could be worth it if you don’t want to be bothered having to remember which device is using which type of WiFi network.
