When people jailbreak their iPhones most of the time it is to get apps that simply are not available on the iTunes app store and are not official, Apple approved apps. These jailbreak fans have a whole new world of apps opened up for them and now the latest one for the fashion forward or stylish students is here. It is called Dashing. The app allows for customized color themes to be used on the iOS keyboard for texting, internet browsing or any other time the keyboard pops up.
Although this isn’t an app that is a hot new game, or one that makes your life much easier, sometimes we just need a little bit of color or dulled down color in our lives. The stock iOS keyboard is a little bit pastel for some people, and those who want to masculinize their color schemes or make the keyboard just a little more something extra Dashing is a great app to check out.
At this point in time Dashing is free, but in the future there will be paid versions for users to select from a much larger array of colors. The app is very well made for not being from an Apple approved app company, and looks perfect for the monotone color that comes with it free.
This is just a quick news update for our readers who like to know before anyone else that new technology is going to hit the market. Samsung announced earlier that the term their devices have been coined, “Fonblet” for a phone mixed with a tablet is being re described as Galaxy Mega. This new line of phone and tablet hybrids are being introduced with two models. One is being called the Galaxy Mega 5.8, and the other Galaxy Mega 6.3. The numbers almost positively hint towards massive 5.8 and 6.3 inch screens on these devices.
The Galaxy Mega 5.8 is rumored to be released around the 22nd week of the year and come in white, while the Galaxy Mega 6.3 will be offered in both black and white and will be offered a few weeks after the initial release of the 5.8.
PC gaming is something that is no longer seen as a trend with those who are nerds and invalids. This type of gaming has become so much more mainstream with the introduction of smart phones and smaller gaming devices. These days app games and PC gaming titles are household names with the younger generation as well as the parents of that generation. One of the biggest transitions for this type of gaming is the lack of a good controller. Sure you can use an Xbox controller plugged into a USB port, or go buy a third party controller from a store, but they are usually poor substitutes and are way overpriced. There’s now a solution in store with the app that makes your Android device into a fully functional gaming controller. The app is called nJoy and it features a full button menu and virtual joystick to control the game on your computer right from the mobile device.
nJoy is a wireless based app and communicates with the computer through WiFi, but can also be connected with the wireless carrier’s network if that is not an option. With this app you will have a cheap and very effective solution for using a controller to play your PC based games.
The only thing this app is missing is a button configuration menu. Some people are accustomed to a certain type of button layout for whatever system they’re used to playing on, but others enjoy at least the option of making it something more catered to their hand preferences. If the app had this there wouldn’t be much of a bone to pick, but for free or the paid version of barely over a dollar it is hard to complain about anything at all.
One of the first April Fools jokes cashed in early this morning as the clock just rolled over. Google Nose hit the web and people went crazy. It’s easily recognizable as too insane to be true, but the gag was so well planned and had such a Google level of marketing that it was far more believable than it should have been. I’m sure it left more than one person sniffing around for this new technology.
They then later came back to the jokes when they revealed Gmail Blue. This supposedly revolutionary new email service, a revamp of their classic, was supposed to be just a new way to use Gmail that would be improved but the only thing different about it is that everything is blue. Blue buttons, links and themes, that’s it.
For the third of Google’s April Foolery check out the home page of their infamous searches. The I’m feeling lucky bar has been changed into a rolling index of alternate phrases such as “I’m feeling playful”, “I’m feeling hungry”, and “I’m feeling artistic”. Just another small touch for Google to get their laughs in.
Bing :
Head over to Bing as your search engine and do a quick search for Google. This often performed search makes the Bing page into a Bing version of the Google search page. It’s a small little gag but one worth a chuckle.
Microsoft :
Microsoft played a dirty trick today in their Windows Phone app store. As we have blogged about on numerous occasions, the Windows Phone is one of the very few devices that doesn’t have Instagram compatibility. While they are being left to the dinosaurs on this they decided to make fun of their own short comings and announce the release of a fake Instagram for download. Although this isn’t even funny for people who really want the app, fans of Android and iOS who have Instagram are probably pointing and laughing even more now.
Twitter:
Twitter started out strong with a ridiculous ploy to attempt to fool the feeble this morning as well. They announced a service for their users that would include a free version of “Twttr” the service we know and love but without the use of vowels, and a paid premium service of regular Twitter that would allow the use of vowels. Twitter made a new official statement teasing its users to begin practicing tweeting without vowels with the hashtag #nvwls.
Luckily for our loyal fan base over here at TechnoBB we like you guys so much that we aren’t going to throw you for a loop. We are announcing happily that given the success of the site in recent months we are adding a new service. This will be called TechnoBB’s Babies. It’s a new feature we’re proud of that will integrate our love for technology with our love for babies. This service will feature members to view the latest and greatest technology updates with featured pictures of a new, cute bundle of joy each day…. April Fools. We’ll stick to technology thank you very much.
MeteoEarth is one of the most stunning weather apps I have ever come across. With graphics unmatched in any other and a system powered by those similar to the professional meteorologists on newscasts this app packs a useful and appealing punch. Not only is this just a GPS linked daily forecaster, but you can spin the globe and pinpoint and track weather systems anywhere on Earth. You can even switch which weather systems to show such as rain, cloud cover, and wind diagrams. The option for a 3D view or a flattened out 2D map to view the weather on also makes the experience that much more profound.
For those of us who love weather and tracking the state of the world’s systems this app will provide literally endless fun. Having worries about relatives in a different state or different country? No problem, just zoom your map in over where they are and see for yourself how things are doing over there.
The interface is one of the smoothest I have used for an app this expansive. The ability to spin the globe and pick out pinpointed locations feels very natural and takes no time at all to learn. Anyone from a weather buff to a regular, everyday person would find this app interesting and entertaining, as well as most importantly, useful.
One of the most coveted apps that has yet to make an appearance on the Windows Phone platform is the infamous Instagram. The photo sharing app with the power of Facebook behind it is the name synonymous with photo sharing and on the go amateur filter photography. Although Windows Phone users are simply left behind and out of the loop with Instagram, there are a few alternative apps that can allow a simulated experience. There was a new addition to this arena last week with the app called PhotoPlay. It is essentially an Instagram style filter and social media app with a different name.
PhotoPlay does what it does well. With a great amount of filters and effects, you can get the most of the great cameras Windows Phone 8 devices come equipped with. One of the only pitfalls is the same barrier that every other photo sharing app besides Instagram has to overcome; it’s not Instagram. This means that simply because it doesn’t have the millions of users at the heart of the app the functionality of sharing these pictures in an Instagram like forum is impossible. Although the app is available cross platform, getting your friends to try it out is one thing, but getting the world to cater to the app may be an entirely different story.
PhotoPlay is also only compatible with Windows Phone 8. There is no version which works with earlier versions of the OS which means that the market for the app is even further restricted. Either way it is a fun app and a great alternative to Instagram like on the fly editing and filter application.
