Finally Facebook Home is Now Available in the Google Play Store

The day that Facebook and social media fans have been waiting eagerly for is finally here. The long awaited and heavily hyped Facebook Home is here, for some. Only for some because the app is currently only compatible with the HTC One X, One X+, Samsung Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note II. This short list of devices will surely grow as the days pass, but as of now if you don’t have one of those devices, but want Facebook Home, you’re out of luck.

Now that Facebook Home is safely in the grasps of the Google Play Store you can go grab it if you have one of those devices. The app itself drastically changes the way you will experience Facebook and the way in which social media will envelop your phone. The device turns itself into a default Facebook machine and viewer from the home screen. For those of use who heavily use Facebook to check up on people and browse the newsfeed this is great and allows a nice new way to do so.

The second the phone is activated, the home screen and the lock screen will display news feed posts and spotlighted images and text that your friends or like pages are sharing. Your notifications will also pop up as would texts or other main notifications in a nicely themed and pleasant looking format. With the combination of the new Facebook home and the integration of Facebook Messenger app now able to be used as a default texting platform, Facebook can take over the basics of your everyday phone use.

The app launcher is another main feature of the Facebook Home app. With this you can customize where you want the apps to go and where you want them positioned while keeping them organized. You can also do all of this from the Facebook Home which makes it much easier to go from app to app than with most conventional home screen set ups.

The Facebook Home is the newest innovation from the Facebook developers and one of the biggest releases in their side of the world in quite some time. So far, it looks pretty good and well designed with few bugs as you would expect from the Facebook team. If you have a compatible device check it out in the Google Play store.

Todo Movies 2.0 launched with rating system, new movie discovery feature

The name of the app sounds kind of weird until you break it down. It’s a “to do” list for movie watching. These days with television and movies so easily accessible online and streaming or for rental delivery through services like Netflix, the world is at your fingertips. There are thousands of movies out there that you’ll probably love and the only tricky thing is finding them and remembering that you wanted to watch them.

There’s little more frustrating than hearing about a movie that you want to watch from a friend or coworker and then just forgetting about it later. With Todo Movies you can create lists, get notifications, and follow movies as they become released or available.

The other great thing is that movies can all be played up to sound great, but Todo Movies allows a user rating system that runs parallel with other famous rating services like Netflix, Rotten Tomatoes, and TMDB to see what is really worth your time. Social network integration is another great aspect of the app since it allows you to share or hear about what your friends are talking about and watching to stay up to date on their thoughts about them too.

Todo Movies may seem a bit like an unnecessary app, but once you’ve tried it you won’t have to waste anymore time on awful movies or forget about those ones you really wanted to see. With this kind of specific service there are a few other apps out there that do similar functions, but in the end of the day this one takes the cake hands down.

Since you’ve read this long I’ll mention that another cool feature is the Bonus Scenes description with new movies that inform you if it’s worth it or not to stay around and watch the credits roll for an extra scene or bloopers when the movie is over.

Samsung GALAXY Mega unveils with 5.8 and 6.3 inch sizes

Samsung has been on a roll lately with their steady announcements of new devices. This is a welcome addition to the smart phone market which has been plagued by the same old thing for a couple of years now. There have been tablet/phone combinations before on the market, but with all of these larger Samsung devices hitting the shelves in the coming months there may finally be a new style of phone which is widely used. Samsung announced two of these larger screen based phone devices which are being dubbed under the Galaxy Mega title. They will feature screens with the 5.8 inch and 6.3 inch varieties.

The stats and specifications of the Galaxy Mega line will resemble in many ways the new S4 device, but with just a sizable screen added to the mix. The thing about the massive screens is that the resolution is not great. Lower than that of the S4 and S3 and many other Android devices. This begs the question of what niche these devices are playing to. If they are not seeking those who want the highest definition screen and just people who want a larger than normal phone screen the market for that kind of thing will be seen to be desirable or not.

They will come packed with the newest Android software and the double sided cameras for front and rear use. Other than those types of specifications the phones are all around pretty decent but nothing groundbreaking. They will have decent batteries and pretty good memory expansion with the MicroSD card slots. They are a new combination phone and tablet, but edging very close to just a large phone and not really a tablet. We’ll see how successful these devices turn out to be.

Instagraph: The Temporary Instagram for Windows Phone 8 Users

It is now a running joke among Instagram users, where the Windows Phone 8 users are the butt of the joke, that they don’t have access to Instagram. Instagram is the largest and most effective photo sharing social media platform there is right now. This flaw that Instagraph has exploited allows Instagram to be updated and used through the Instagraph program app. Now Windows Phone 8 users can use Instagram like the rest of their mobile device using friends.

Instagram has been that end goal that Windows Phone 8 users have always wanted. It is sort of now available. Although this is not the official Instagram for Windows Phone, it will allow you to use and actual Instagram account with a Windows 8 Phone. This is a big first step in the right direction and allows some level of Windows Phone 8 support.

There are of course catches to a non official app. The first is that you are throttled to 3 uploads a day. This is to not fill the server with tons of downloads as the app is supported by a much smaller company than a Google or Facebook style developer like Instagram is. The developer does say that they are upgrading the servers and will either increase this quota or eliminate it completely in a short amount of time.

There have been a lot of complaints with this app so far in terms of it not working appropriately or at all. This is often the case with smaller independent developers, but hopefully soon enough the problems will be fixed and Windows Phone 8 users can have this pseudo Instagram on their phones.
