Find Work With JobLens By Nokia

JobLens is a comprehensive and powerful assistant for job seekers from Nokia. The app draws from a variety of some of the biggest players in job networking and combines them into a single experience. Anyone who has spent countless hours searching for, applying to, and rushing to interviews for jobs will appreciate the convenience of having everything coordinated in a single app. JobLens uses popular services like LinkedIn, Facebook, Indeed, and Twitter to keep you on top of the latest job listings with less hassle.

Once you’ve linked your appropriate social networks and data to the app, it will automatically generate a helpful list called ‘Jobs Near Me’, based on that data. Based on the people you’re connected to and the type of work you’re looking for, jobs that are right for you will be tagged and displayed on a map and in a list. Even better, the augmented viewer uses the phone’s camera to overlay specific jobs nearby in real time so you can search for jobs on the spot with a sweep of your phone. Or, get turn-by-turn directions to the job location with ‘Get You There’ once you’ve landed an interview.

JobLens uses the power of Live Tiles and Microsoft’s SkyDrive to keep you up to date on the progress of your search. You can pin specific job listings to the Start Screen and check up on them repeatedly or retrieve and update your resume with SkyDrive. Nokia has really thought of nearly everything a job seeker could want with this app.

JobLens is available for all Nokia Lumia users running Windows Phone 8 on the Windows Phone Store. If you want to relieve some of the stress of searching for jobs and are tired of running from site to site, give it a try.

Watch Discovery, TLC, and Animal Planet On Windows Phone 8

Discovery Network has simultaneously released three separate apps for their most popular channels. These include Discovery, TLC, and Animal Planet. They are separate apps but each is very similar in layout and functionality. When you start the app up, you’re greeted with the ‘Featured’ section with tiles for the most popular shows on that particular channel. If the show you want isn’t in that section, you can swipe over to a full list of shows or search for one by text or voice. Each show comes with a full description, extra clips, full episodes, and listings for air times. There is the option to share your favorite episode on social media as well.

The player is simple but all you really need, with a start and pause button and seek bar that can be tapped to jump to a particular spot. The player only works in landscape mode which is also for the best as you get the largest viewing area possible. For those who are always forgetting when the next episode is airing or can’t keep track of all their favorite shows, the apps come with helpful schedules and listings for all upcoming episodes. You can even choose to pin them to your calendar to remind you when a certain episode will air.

If you’re a fan of any of Discovery Network’s shows, check out these three convenient apps for mobile viewing. All three are available free for Windows Phone 8 on the Windows Phone Store.

Speed Up your Device With Memory Booster for Android

Has your beloved Android smartphone or tablet turned sluggish on you? The problem could be memory leaks from misbehaving apps or fragmented memory. In either case, Memory Booster can tame those wild apps and reclaim memory to speed up your experience. Memory Booster works by continuously monitoring how your device is using memory, both in RAM and the main device storage. A bug in an app or an app left running too long can lead to large memory leaks that go unnoticed and eat away at your device’s RAM. Once that happens, everything slows down to a painful crawl and you may find yourself wanting to throw that tablet or phone out the window.

Memory Booster watches for these kinds of memory leaks from naughty apps and reclaims memory in RAM that is not being used properly. More RAM means more speed, it’s that simple. Your storage can also become fragmented over time which can lead to slower loading times in apps and overall performance declines. Memory Booster has a defragmentation feature that can organize your data storage to speed everything up. The real-time monitor lets you view stats on memory usage and how much is being freed by the app but you can also use Quick Boost to free up extra memory with a single tap. Auto-Boost lets you control how aggressive the app will be in freeing up memory. It also has built in crash protection to watch for times when memory usage reaches an unstable level and will fix it automatically for you. For those apps that refuse to behave, there is an included Task Killer to shut it down manually.

Memory Booster is available now on Google Play free for the limited version or $2.99 for the full version. Check it out if your device is getting lazy.

Network Speed Test for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft Research’s latest app, Network Speed Test, is a great diagnostic tool with a light and clean interface. It does just one thing, test a network’s download and upload speed, but it does so with elegance and efficiency. From time to time we’ve all used some kind of speed test when the network is acting up or you suspect that someone might be stealing your connection. There are sites and apps for other systems that do the same thing, but now Windows Phone 8 users have a great official tool from Microsoft that sports a refreshingly clear interface and does what it says.

Network Speed Test has three mini sections. The first is ‘Network’ where you initiate the network test once you’ve connected to the network you want to check. You simply tap ‘Start’ when you’re ready, and a nice green meter will display your current speed as the test progresses. Below the meter, you’ll see real-time stats for download, upload, max jitter, and packet loss as each test is completed in that order. Once the test is complete, you can view some very basic network information including connection type, network name, internet status, and host name. The last section has a great log of all past tests performed in case you want to compare networks or see how your own network has changed over time. The log does have several glaring flaws, including an inability to delete the log history and not showing the network name, only the connection type. Hopefully this is fixed soon as it makes the log much less useful than it could be.

Log issues aside, this is a helpful app, especially for WP8 users. Network Speed Test is available free at the Windows Phone Store, grab it if you need a speed test.

Fuelboard For Windows Phone 8, An Unofficial Nike+ FuelBand App

Owners of a Nike+ FuelBand fitness accessory will be happy to know that the unofficial Windows 8 Phone app Fuelboard now supports viewing data on a Windows 8 phone. The Nike+ FuelBand is a small gadget worn on the wrist that can monitor some basic movements to act as a gauge of daily activity and exercise. It can also track calories consumed during the day with included software. The collected data can be used for a wide array of fitness applications from tracking steps, calories, etc. to earning rewards and commendations for reaching fitness goals. Until now, the only apps that support FuelBand were an official one for iOS and an unofficial one for Android.

With Fuelboard, you can now monitor your lifetime, current, and last week’s fitness data. Unfortunately, the app does not communicate directly with the device and you must upload your data from the provided FuelBand software where it is then accessed from the app. The interface is great and there are a range of options to view the data in eye-pleasing charts from categories including Fuel, Calories, and Steps. It’s a very efficient and helpful way to keep tabs on the hard working machine that is your body. Having that visual feedback really reinforces how much you’ve accomplished toward a fitness goal or how much more is left to be done.

Fuelboard is available now for only 99 cents. If you have a Nike+ FuelBand, it is a fantastic accompaniment to view your data on the go on a Windows 8 Phone.
